Timeless engineering combined with a proven history! Inspired by a true air classic, the Boker Plus presents the ME 109 Damascus as a collector's knife with a unique character. Based on the Messerschmitt BF-109 (often referred to as ME-109), the knife combines the material, shape and color of a 1930s fighter, thus creating a near-replica of its historic model. Approximately 34,000 low-wing aircraft were launched between 1935 and 1945, making it one of the most-built military aircraft in the world to this day. The special feature of the Messerschmitt ME 109 is the all-metal construction of the fuselage and wings, retractable landing gear and closed cockpit. These achievements were considered groundbreaking at the time, giving the German Air Force strategic advantages in air combat. The special design allowed for higher loads, which allowed for higher speeds, dizzying altitudes, and aggressive turning and evasive maneuvers. The powerful Daimler Benz V12 engine produced around 1,000 hp, depending on the model series, and allowed a top speed of 560 km/h and more. The single-engine propeller plane was armed with two MG-17 (7.92 mm caliber) machine guns above the engine and two MG-FF (20 mm caliber) machine guns on the wings. It wasn't just the distinctive lines of the Messerschmitt ME 109 that prompted Boker's development department to embark on this exciting project. The challenge was to transfer the fighter's design language and performance to the knife without sacrificing elegance or practicality. At the heart of the Boker Plus ME 109 is a striking Damascus blade that has been forged by Damascus virtuoso Chad Nichols himself. The steel used for this comes from the salvaged wreck of a Messerschmitt ME 109 Type E (Emil), which was shot down by the Royal Air Force near Ashford, Kent during the Battle of Britain. The armor and crankshaft parts are the ideal basis for the production of high-strength Damascus steel. The wave-like "wave pool" pattern in the 80-layer Damascus is reminiscent of wake turbulence, the often seen air turbulence behind flying aircraft. When viewed from the side, the drop-point blade visually evokes a historic fighter aircraft. The rear part of the blade was designed as a cockpit, which was beautifully realized by partially raising the back of the blade and specific recesses and jimpings. Further highlights are the nail nicks in the front of the blade's spine, modeled after the two MG-17 machine guns above the engine, and the open fin that rests on the extended landing gear. When opened, the blade merges seamlessly with the handle of the pocket knife, emphasizing the visual realization down to the smallest detail. The front grip weights are made of FAT Carbon and feature a "Toxic Storm" pattern. This patchy camouflage pattern of yellow, green and black was typical of German Air Force aircraft at the time. Extreme reliability is ensured by the Titan frame, which holds the blade securely in place even during hard work. Despite the clear lines, the handle fits comfortably in the hand thanks to the ergonomic recesses. The titanium clip is milled from the solid and allows for deep wearing (tip-up/r), while the lanyard hole allows for further attachment options. Boker Plus ME 109 Damascus is a tribute to the pioneering work of Wilhelm Emil Messerschmitt and appropriately contains the original meaning of the name (Messerschmitt - knife). A must for all knife collectors and friends of historic aircraft. Comes with a high-quality storage case and certificate of authenticity.
