Above all, a rescue tool must meet one main requirement: in an emergency and stressful situation, it must be quick, easy and reliable to use. The best technical solution to meet this requirement is a design with an automatic thrust vane (OTF, abbreviated Out-of-The-Front) with a solidly made and carefully crafted mechanism. This poses a legal challenge for manufacturers in Germany, as OTF knives are initially banned under the German Weapons Act (WaffG §1(4) in conjunction with Annex 1, Section 1, Subsection 2.1.1). However, in the case of the Boker Plus Kalashnikov Rescue OTF, an assessment notice from the Federal Criminal Police Office has now been published, which negates the characteristics of the weapon and the prohibitions of this tool due to the shape of the blade. (File number SO13-5164.01-Z-543) Possession and even carrying this tool in public places (in Germany) is allowed when the tool pops out or slides completely into the holder.

At the heart of the rescue tool is a classic thumb-slider jump mechanism that allows the blade to pop out forcefully when activated or retract completely back into the handle. The absolutely reliable and proven mechanism with a powerful spring was borrowed from the OTF series of Kalashnikov jumping knives, which Boker has been selling abroad for many years, including: in France or the USA.

The blade designed as a rescue hook with a rounded tip prevents accidental injuries during rescue or self-rescue. The cutting edge with an internal radius behind the tip enables quick and intuitive cutting of harnesses, lines and ropes, as well as safe cutting of the clothing of injured persons. The serrated biting edge on the other half of the cutting edge also allows cutting of thick and encrusted ropes. D2 stainless steel was used to make the blade due to its extreme edge retention in the cutting area. The handle body is equipped with distinct finger grooves for the required grip security and is additionally textured to prevent slipping. The aluminum used to make the handle is characterized by the required strength combined with low weight. The necessary side window breaker is equipped with an impressive steep cone. The core of the glass breaker is made of extremely hard tungsten carbide. To facilitate replacement when worn, the glass breaker is screwed to the handle. Deep spring steel clip and nylon cover.
