Known among experts, loved by practitioners. The classic two-stage X-shaped pocket sharpener is probably the most sold and most widely used sharpening tool in the world. The plastic body houses a V grinder made of two carbide segments and a fine-grained V grinder made of ceramic rods. It owes its unjustified bad reputation among experts to V-tungsten carbide, which does not grind the blade in the true sense of the word, but extracts steel chips from the cutting edge in the longitudinal direction. If too much pressure is applied and the work is done too quickly, vibrations will appear on the cutting edge, i.e. irregular and rough grinding. The more repetitions and the weaker the pressure, the better the result. In the second stage, sharpening can be further improved using ceramic rods. The sharpener is particularly suitable for carbon steel or softer blades. With some inexpensive, softer steels, obtaining an edge is even easier than using a whetstone or bar, which, with this quality of material, quickly burrs or reverses the edge. The tool is therefore used wherever you need to quickly and easily restore useful, but not perfect, sharpness. Low price, small size and ease of use are important reasons for the success of this concept. Rubberized gripping surfaces and rubberized feet on both sides ensure safe use.
