Why SAPSAN Supported the Mobile Hacking Community at DEF CON 34
Mobile security cannot be learned from slides alone. You need to take an app apart, intercept traffic, examine how a device behaves and see what a real attack looks like outside the lab.
That is why SAPSAN became a financial sponsor of the Mobile Hacking Community at DEF CON 34, held on August 6-9, 2026 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. We supported the community at the Bronze level, as confirmed by the official MHC sponsor list.
DEF CON 34 and the Mobile Hacking Community
DEF CON brings together security researchers, red teamers, toolmakers and people who prefer to test a system with their own hands instead of trusting a vendor's claims. Independent villages dedicated to specific areas of cybersecurity are a vital part of the event.
The Mobile Hacking Community creates a space focused on smartphone and mobile application security. Its program included talks, workshops, demonstrations, CTFs and hands-on practice. This practical approach is exactly why we wanted to support the initiative financially.
Why SAPSAN supported this community
Security testing equipment becomes valuable only when it reaches people who know how to use it responsibly and share that knowledge with others. Mobile security is evolving quickly, while the boundaries between applications, operating systems, radio and physical devices have almost disappeared.
At SAPSAN, we work every day with equipment for red teaming, radio analysis, RFID and NFC testing, wireless network security and embedded-system research. Supporting MHC was therefore a natural extension of what we do as a company. Instead of placing another logo in a random directory, we chose a community that builds practical skills.
Offensive Security from Your Pocket
Our friend and business partner Lukáš Štefanko, creator of Mobile Hacker, was also there. At the event, he spoke independently in his role as Senior Malware Researcher at ESET, not as a SAPSAN representative.
His talk, Offensive Security from Your Pocket, took place on Friday, August 7, from 12:15 to 12:45. According to the official MHC schedule, Lukáš demonstrated real-world mobile attack techniques: rogue Wi-Fi access points used for data interception, Android application manipulation with Frida and Kali NetHunter on rooted devices.
The second part covered hardware threats, including BadUSB, Bluetooth attacks and NFC relay. Each example was paired with practical mitigation strategies. This combination of offensive demonstrations and defensive takeaways is what allows knowledge from the event to reach real security teams.
